The best places to buy preloved luxury bags in malaysia

Updated: Apr 21, 2018

Scoop and Glampot are the go-to places for preloved luxury bags

Preloved luxury bags
Fancy a luxury bag? Try buying preloved.

Buying preloved clothes and accessories in Malaysia can be a hassle if you don’t live in the Klang Valley. Hence, most people resort to buying their clothes and accessories cheaply via online means, and these websites aren’t transparent about their supply chains or even who makes the clothes. This is a worrying trend, and things can only change if consumers like you and I educate ourselves on sustainable fashion.

At the other end of the spectrum are people who are conscious-minded (at the very least about wastage) and want to make a difference. They also may have cash to burn or desire designer clothes or bags, but can’t afford them brand-new. It’s for this group that I am writing this post.

Remember, luxury or designer brands are not necessarily sustainable simply because they cost more. Many of them aren’t transparent about their supply chains or who makes their products, so if you want to buy their products brand-new, think again. Do your conscience (and the environment and exploited workers) a favour and avoid designer brands completely unless they are sustainable and ethical.

However, if you really can’t avoid it, buy preloved and that’s what this post is all about. Fashionably Kind spoke to the owner of preloved bag and accessory boutique Scoop recently for her insights into buying preloved designer handbags.

According to Scoop co-founder and co-owner Melanie Hon, Scoop was established in 2006 by her and two other business partners. The early days were challenging, she says, as some people were doubtful as well as surprised that the boutique carried multiple designer brands.

But Hon knew her target market well, and soon won them over. She had drawn inspiration from visiting similar boutiques in Hong Kong and the UK, and knew the business would take off eventually.

And it did. Scoop is now a popular destination in the Klang Valley for locals, as well as expatriates who have their hearts set on preloved luxury bags. “We carry nearly all the premium brands and sell the bags on consignment, so the sellers benefit,” Hon shares, adding that prices start at RM1,000 onwards.

Scoop promotes their wares via their Facebook page and via Instagram at scoop_kl, Hon says. However, she and her co-owners don’t feel the need to take their business fully online as their customers prefer the personalised service and seeing the products in person before making a purchase.

Hon notes that honesty and good payment practices are very important in her industry. So is building trust with customers, which she has managed to achieve throughout the years. “We’re established and have built a good reputation with our customers,” she says, adding that Scoop provides after-sales service to its customers such as helping customers get their bags repaired.

She cautions against making online purchases from unfamiliar or doubtful-sounding resellers, as she has had customers who’ve ended up with counterfeit or damaged bags. “These online sites don’t provide after-sales service either, which can be troublesome for customers who need their bags replaced or repaired.”

Scoop is located at P-1-19, Plaza Damas, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Founded in 2007, Glampot is an online designer consignment boutique that specialises in authentic brand-new as well as preloved designer bags, clothing and accessories. The website also offers free shipping throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Australia, which is a pretty good option if you’re located or traveling abroad at the time you made a purchase.

Check out the complete list of designer brands available here. And if you can’t find something that you like, Glampot provides a concierge service as well, available through its website.

Connect with Glampot via social media at the following channels:

If you prefer to buy offline, Glampot has stores at the following locations:

One final word of advice: do your research and support the luxury brands that are sustainable and ethical, even when you’re buying preloved (examples that come to mind at Matt & Nat and Stella McCartney). Happy shopping, folks!!
