Ever since I started actively using Instagram, I’ve been adding ethical fashion Instagrammers to my account. True, there are hundreds of these accounts out there, so which ones do you actually need to follow to broaden your ethical fashion education?

I’ve narrowed down my original list of 15 Instagram accounts to the 5 essential Instagrammers I believe everyone interested in ethical fashion should follow.

Here they are in no particular order:

1. Safia Minney, founder of ethical fashion clothing brand People Tree

UK-based Safia Minney is the founder of People Tree and one of the early advocates of the slow fashion movement. She is passionate about the plight of garment workers in developing countries and expresses her views freely on Instagram and Twitter. Definitely worth following.

2. Livia Firth

Like Safia Minney, Livia Firth is a tireless campaigner of sustainable fashion and often criticises fast fashion industry practices. She is also the creative director of ethical consulting firm Eco Age and if you didn’t know it, is the wife of actor Colin Firth. Her Instagram posts have a touch of whimsy that are sure to inspire and delight even the most cynical among us.

3. Eco Warrior Princess

Australian blogger Jennifer Nini is the brains behind top sustainable fashion and living blog Eco Warrior Princess. She is a candid and honest blogger, which shows in her Instagram posts. She is also a dedicated environmentalist who lives off-the-grid, and doesn’t hold back in her writing.

4. Sustainability In Style

An environmental scientist by profession, Katie Roberts is a sustainable fashion blogger whose blog is both fresh and unique. She’s also got an e-book underway, which I can’t wait to read! Definitely someone worth following on Instagram.

5. Fashion Revolution

UK-based non-profit Fashion Revolution is a dedicated campaigner of slow fashion and this single-minded focus is reflected in their awareness-creating Instagram posts. A good place to start if you are new to ethical fashion.
